About

Two names, one tradesman, one van.

Bathroom-AZ is the bathroom fitting side. Tiling-AZ is the tiling side. They are the same business, run out of Broadheath in Altrincham, and the reason for two names is simply that plenty of customers only need one of the two.

A gloved hand holding a plasterer's trowel against a prepared wall

A bathroom is a small room that needs a surprising number of different skills. Somebody has to take out the old suite, move the pipework, make the walls flat and true, waterproof the wet areas, lay a floor that has the right build-up for whatever is going under it, tile walls and floors to a set-out that actually works, grout it, silicone it, and then fit and test the new suite. Done conventionally that is three or four trades, three or four schedules, and three or four opportunities for something to fall between them.

Bathroom-AZ does all of it. That is what the “A to Z” in the name is for — and it is the reason the tiling and the plumbing and the finish across a room look like they were done by somebody who could see the whole job, because they were. Over ten years on the tools, and in the business's own words, fully qualified.

The tiling half stands on its own too. Tiling-AZ takes tiling-only work: a wall, a floor, a chimney breast, a kitchen splashback, a Victorian hall. Any size of tile, from mosaic sheets to large-format porcelain, and any bond — stack, brick, diagonal, herringbone, chevron, or something you have seen and cannot name. There is a whole guide to those on this site, because choosing the bond turns out to matter more than most people are told at the tile shop.

We work out of Broadheath, so most jobs are within a short drive across Trafford and north Cheshire. A lot of the housing round here — Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Altrincham and Sale, 1930s semis in Timperley and Hale — comes with its own quirks: floors that have moved, walls that were never straight, bathrooms carved out of a back bedroom in 1978. None of that is a problem so long as somebody looks at it before quoting, which is why we always come and look.

How we work

Three things we will not do.

The same person, start to finish

Strip-out, first-fix plumbing, boarding, tanking, tiling, second fix, silicone. One trade doing all of it means nothing gets lost in the handover between a plumber, a tiler and an electrician who have never met.

Set out before a single tile is fixed

Every wall and floor is set out dry first — centre lines found, cuts balanced, bond chosen — so you never end up with a five-millimetre slither of tile in the most visible corner of the room. It is the step that separates a tiled room from a well-tiled room.

A quote after a look, not over the phone

Pipe runs, floor build-up, what is actually behind the plasterboard — none of that is visible from a photo. We come and look, then price the job properly, so the number you get at the start is the number you pay at the end.

Where we work

Altrincham, Trafford and out across north Cheshire.

Based in Broadheath, so most of the work is within a short drive: Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale, Halebarns, Timperley, Sale, Cheadle and Didsbury, and out to Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, Knutsford and Lymm. If you're just outside that, ring and ask — it's usually a yes.

Thinking about the bathroom?

Ring or text the number below, or send a couple of photos and rough measurements by email. We come and look at the room before we price it — that is the only way the number stays the same at the end.

We're on the tools most of the day, so a text or a voicemail is never ignored — we ring back the same day.
