Questions

The things people ask before they ring.

If yours isn't here, ring 07738 266427 or email bathroom.az@gmail.com — we would rather answer it than have you guess.

Do you do the plumbing as well as the tiling?

Yes — that's the whole idea behind the A-to-Z name. Changing pipe runs from floor to wall for the radiator, WC, basin and shower is part of a normal bathroom job here, not something a second trade gets called in for. The one exception is anything that has to be signed off by a registered gas or electrical engineer, which we'll tell you about at quote stage and bring in the right person for.

What size tiles can you lay?

Anything from small mosaics to large-format porcelain. Big tiles are less forgiving than small ones — they need a flatter substrate, more adhesive coverage and a levelling system to stop lippage between edges — so the prep changes with the format rather than the price of the tile.

Which tile patterns do you lay?

Straight and vertical stack bond, brick and half-brick bond, diagonal, straight and herringbone layouts, chevron, Victorian geometric floors, and plank tiles laid like a wooden floor. There's a plain-English guide to all of them on the tile patterns page — worth a read before you choose a tile.

Can you fit underfloor heating?

Yes — electric underfloor heating mats or cable under a tiled floor, in bathrooms, kitchens, halls and living rooms. It's laid, tested with a meter before it's covered, tested again after, and set into a levelling compound so the tiles sit on a flat bed rather than straight on the cable. The electrical connection is made by a qualified electrician.

Do you take on repairs, or only whole rooms?

Repairs too. Swapping a failed shower mixer, replacing a cracked tile without wrecking the ones around it, re-doing a floor where the underfloor heating was laid wrong, tracking down a dripping mixer that's soaked the shower tray. Small jobs are how a lot of people meet us.

Do you tile fireplaces and chimney breasts?

Regularly. A chimney breast is a good place for a tile that would be too much across a whole room — a slab-effect porcelain, a herringbone, a textured stone. The setting-out matters more than usual because the breast is the thing everyone in the room looks at.

How long does a full bathroom take?

It depends on the room and the tile, and we'd rather give you a realistic date at quote stage than a number here that turns out to be wrong for your job. What we will say is that adhesive and grout have curing times that can't be rushed, and a floor tiled on Friday afternoon should not be walked on Friday evening.

Which areas do you cover?

Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale, Halebarns, Timperley, Sale, Cheadle, Didsbury, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, Knutsford and Lymm, plus the bits in between. Ring 07738 266427 if you're not sure whether you're in range.

How do I get a price?

Call or text 07738 266427, or email bathroom.az@gmail.com with a couple of photos and rough measurements. We'll arrange to come and look at the room — pricing a bathroom properly means seeing it, not guessing at it.

Thinking about the bathroom?

Ring or text the number below, or send a couple of photos and rough measurements by email. We come and look at the room before we price it — that is the only way the number stays the same at the end.

We're on the tools most of the day, so a text or a voicemail is never ignored — we ring back the same day.
